“It’s a sexy product and easy to understand”, was Mayr-Melnhof/Kaufmann’s (MM) explanation for interest in cross-laminated timber (CLT) at Ecobuild.

A wall section of its BSP crossplan CLT, its newest venture, was on display with rendered external wood fibre insulation, while nearby B&K Structures’ stand was made out of BSP and MM’s glulam.

Bernd Gusinde, MM engineering and consulting representative, said the group concentrated on a volume, supply-only business model, with no tie-ins with contractors, though B&K is a regular UK client.

MM is the third largest sawmiller in Europe, the largest glulam producer (350,000m³ annually) and BSP cross-lam production is running at 60,000m³.
