Severn Valley Woodworks Ltd has invested about £125,000 in new machinery and equipment to improve the manufacture of its diverse range of timber products.

The Gloucestershire company, which started life as a coffin factory in the 1970s, spent about £40,000 on a Holytek MX-CE six-head moulder to give faster set-up times, allowing smaller batch runs so that they can react more quickly to customer demand.

The machine, supplied by Trymwood Machinery Sales, has two top heads and a digital dial-a-size system, with a capacity of 230mm by 125mm. Other features include a high-tech feed system with pneumatic loading and cutting head units incorporating precision spindles with individual horizontal and vertical adjustment.

Other machinery installed includes a CNC cross-cut saw, bought through JJ Smith & Co (Woodworking Machinery) Ltd, which can also angle and mitre cut, plus a spark detection system for existing extraction equipment.

Severn Valley Woodworks now makes specialised timber products for commercial and recreational timber frame buildings, ground work retention walling systems, oak garden furniture, treated picnic tables and decking.
