John Scott, managing director, of Rosyth-based Scott Timber Group, scored a double triumph at last week’s inaugural Institute of Directors’ Director of the Year Awards, scooping both the Regional Award for Fife and the Microsoft Young Director Award.

Mr Scott became managing director of the family business in 1990 and since then has converted a £96,000 turnover and a trading loss to more than £47m in sales and a healthy profit. In that time the workforce has grown from four to more than 500.

On receiving the awards, Mr Scott said: “In the past two years we have enjoyed an exciting period of strong growth and this has been down to investment across all our UK sites and the hard work of our workforce. They have worked closely with our highly experienced senior management team to improve the efficiency and profitability of all our sites and this reflected in our success in the IoD awards.”
