John Scott, managing director of leading European pallet manufacturer Scott Timber Group (STG), has won a top prize at the prestigious Ernst & Young Scottish Entrepreneur of the Year awards.

In naming him the winner of the business products and services category, a judging panel praised Mr Scott for his “innovative vision” in turning “a modest fencing business” into “a highly successful packaging solution and pallet manufacturing company”.

Mr Scott took over the family business in 1990 at the age of 18. STG now employs more than 600 people at 13 locations throughout the UK and also operates a timber supply business out of Latvia. Mr Scott has set a target of boosting the group’s annual turnover from around £90m at present to £150m by 2009.
