The deal, for an undisclosed sum, sees SCM take on a series of well-known machinery brands, including Gabbiani, Busellato and Celaschi.

Negotiations with Delmac‘s owner and president Ambrogio Delachi, also the president of ACIMALL (the Italian woodworking machinery and tools manufacturers association), resulted in SCM taking an 80% shareholding in Delmac.

SCM described the deal as an “alliance” between leading Italian woodworking companies, which would give SCM significant knowledge, both to complete its machinery capabilities in terms of solid wood processing technologies and to further develop some additional panel processing technologies.

It said Delmac had vast technological assets, which had made it a reference point in engineering and creating panel processing integrated lines for leading furniture manufacturers.

Delmac is expected to benefit from the industrial and financial muscle of SCM to further advance its technology.

The Celaschi brand comprises squaring machines, machining centres, door and window lines and parquet flooring lines. Gabbiani produces tenoners, squaring and edgebanding machines and panel sizing integrated lines, while the Busellato brand focuses on CNC woodworking machining centres.

Other Delmac companies include SAG, CPC, DMG and the Delmac Engineering Company.

The Delmac Group employs 350 people and has an annual turnover of more than €50m. Eighty per cent of its production is exported, with clients including prestigious door, window and parquet flooring manufacturers.

SCM’s turnover is €530m with 3,000 employees.
