A new 3D laser scanning system from AXYZ Automation (UK) is being used to produce complex carved details for a range of applications.

The £12,000 Scantech has already been used to machine gun stocks, guitar necks and components in the film and TV industry.

Scantech, which was officially launched at Sign UK at Birmingham NEC on April 12-14, can be configured on any of the AXYZ range of CNC machines.

It is designed to provide 3D scanning and data capture across the full working area of the CNC bed, allowing a router to produce 3D models and components.

Other applications for Wolverhampton-based AXYZ’s Scantech include reproduction of carved details for fireplaces and furniture, plus manufacture of traditional carved signs for pubs.
