Two sawmills have been instrumental in fine-tuning the development of a high powered metal detector for hardwood or softwood.

The Totalscan TS8 from Protovale of Oxford can locate both ferrous and non-ferrous metals such as nails, barbed wire, staples, bullets and shrapnel.

The new design features an auto zero button for faster location and pinpointing of the object and has a loud audio tone and clear analogue meter.

Steven Blackwell of Helmdon Sawmills Ltd, Brackley, Northamptonshire was among those who helped during the design and testing stages of the TS8. He said: ‘It’s a useful and precise instrument.’
