The Hemyock-based company has invested more than £200,000 in the wood pellet production plant, which includes a chipper, a hammer-mill, a pellet press and bagging plant from German equipment supplier Kahl.

Brookridge believes it is the first pellet plant in England to be located at a timber mill.

Ecowood Fuels, a division of Brookridge which will market the pellets, began producing pellets in October and is targeting production at 3,000 tonnes a year.

Operating the plant enables Brookridge to recycle wood waste produced by the group, as well as helping local businesses utilise their waste timber.

So far customers have been mainly larger users like local schools and colleges, as well as the Royal Bath and Western showground.
