Shire Joinery has invested in a new Boere wide-belt sander at its Dorset facility to help provide precision calibrating and fine finishing of both hard and softwood components.

Based in Sturminster Newton, the business, started five years ago by local builder Martyn Lewis, provides his own company and local contractors with high quality, bespoke joinery products.

The Boere Select 1300KC wide-belt sander was bought through Tony Hoyle of Calderbrook Woodworking Machinery, which supplies the Dutch-made machines in the UK.

The working width of the machine is 1300mm while the working height has been upgraded from 150mm to 190mm.

Mr Lewis said it was also important to get the right shore hardness specification of the rollers, to make sure “there were no cross grain marks on specific workpieces”.
