SAM Mouldings has invested more than £750,000 in manufacturing technology to keep pace with growing demand for its range of MDF profiles.

The Antrim-based company’s investment, made during the first half of 2005, includes a fourth beam saw, two further high-speed profile moulders and three dual-coat priming lines. The factory, which has three acres dedicated to the manufacture of MDF profiles, now has seven high-speed moulders.

SAM Mouldings’ turnover has risen by more than 20% during the first six months, compared to a year ago, with demand coming from both merchants and housebuilders. It claims to have a 25% share of the UK MDF mouldings market.

The beam saw is a Holzma, the new moulders are Weinig Hydromats and Universal vacuum coaters form the priming lines. Further technology purchased includes Cosma sanders and a Baumann five-tonne sideloader.

Sales manager Gerard Wilson said: “The recent expansion and increased capacity will enable us to enhance this core customer offer and strengthen our reputation for consistently offering a top quality product and service package.”
