A 167-year-old Hertfordshire softwood importer and merchant has replaced its moulding technology in order to offer customers fast response on small and varied batch orders.

Sir William Burnett & Co (Timber) Ltd, of Potters Bar, invested in a Holytek throughfeed moulder to give more flexibility to its processing operation. It said the machine’s advantages include fast and accurate set-up and the reliability for working continuously with an average processing load of 70m3 per day.

The company said the Holytek’s eight-head configuration also gives it the flexibility to change from Planed All-Round (PAR) to moulded sections and back to PAR with virtually no down time – resulting in fast response time for “rush jobs” while increasing overall production rates at the same time.

The moulder, which cost about £65,000, has a width and height capacity of 230mm and 130mm respectively and a variable feed speed of between 3-36m/min.

Sir William Burnett has also invested in a Combilift and new racking to improve storage efficiency.
