Optimism about future business prospects has led Bristol-based timber merchant Robbins Timber to upgrade one of its planing lines with Weinig technology.

Robbins, which has three planing lines, purchased a Weinig Unimat 500 planer moulder to give it capacity to machine material up to 260mm wide. The machine replaced a Wadkin GS.

“This investment confirms our optimism for the future, and is due to a need to keep our machinery up-to-date to facilitate efficient and competitive production,” said Richard Bagnall, Robbins’ managing director.

The Unimat incorporates an air bed to prevent sticking while timber passes through the machine.

Mr Bagnall said customers in the furniture, joinery and marine trades demanded high quality, fast delivery and competitive pricing.
