A focus on product development and design innovation has led Richard Burbidge Ltd to appoint a new non-executive director.

Clive Grinyer is an international product design expert who has worked with companies such as Apple, Ford, Xerox and Samsung.

Until recently director of design at the UK Design Council, Clive Grinyer is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and the Chartered Society of Designers. He was a member of the Millennium Products judging panel and is also a regular commentator on design issues in the media. He is currently director of customer experience at Orange World.

His career includes spells in San Francisco and London working with leading design consultancies such as IDEO, Fitch and Tangerine. He has also worked with innovative manufacturers such as TAG McLaren Audio.

Chief executive Richard Burbidge said: “Design and product innovation has become a central theme in our growth and expansion plans. We have increased our in-house product development team and we have been working closely with the Design Council. This has led to real business success with the Fusion stair parts range, which we recently exhibited in the US for the first time to great interest from DIY retailers.

“Clive has a great track record in identifying design trends and translating them into tangible, practical products and we believe his input will help us increase our rate of new product launches.”
