Acoustic screen specialist Charles Ransford & Son Ltd has invested more than £100,000 in new machinery.

The Shropshire-based firm bought a Robinson moulding line with handling equipment, a Reinhardt CNC cross-cut saw and a Stenner tilt bandsaw.

Ransford needed the extra moulding line because of a large increase in special profile work in acoustic screens. The timber screens are often installed alongside motorways to reduce noise to nearby houses.

Sales director Peter Walters said of the Reinhardt cross-cut saw: ‘There are not many machines around in this country that will do big cross-sections with the added gain of angle cutting.’

The investment had shortened lead times and increased throughput in the re-saw area, he said.

The firm also operates as a merchant, manufactures fencing and offers preservation services.
