Consultant Peter Kaczmar unveiled the test to 150 delegates at the International Woodcoatings Congress in Prague, which was organised by the Paint Research Association.

Mr Kaczmar said the test was the result of a three-year research project supported by the DTI and is based on what he said were more relevant parameters.

It is fundamentally different to traditional tribological test methods, which interact with the surface to simulate abrasive or erosive wear, TRADA said.

“A number of developmental products currently being evaluated for commercial release will soon be subjected to the new test method,” added Mr Kaczmar.
