Shopfitter MVS Contracts Ltd has won a number of large jobs since adding a Weinig Quattromat moulder to its Doncaster factory.
MVS says the machine resulted in a big contract for doors and door frames at a Holiday Inn hotel and also enabled the company to take on a refurbishment project at Elvedon Center Parcs.
The firm previously used a surface planer and spindle moulder to process solid wood but found it needed an entry-level four spindle moulder as it moved into a bigger league of jobs.
Tim Scott, MVS managing director, said the Quattromat 23P was the last piece in the jigsaw of a £200,000 two-year machinery investment, also involving a CNC router, a beam saw and an edgebander.
Mr Scott said the Quattromat, a £16,000 investment, is 10 times faster on planing all round and 15 times faster on linear profiles compared to the old machines.

He said the fast set-up time is important as every job is tailored to customers’ needs, with very few standard sizes and profiles. Customers include well-known hotels, high street retailers, supermarkets and restaurants.
Set-up time can be reduced by a further 50% if the knives are sharpened on a Weinig Rondamat grinder.
MVS says the new machine is much safer to operate than its predecessors because the operator does not need to access the cutters – adjustments are made on digital readouts instead.
