A machining solution from Weeke has enabled a Peterborough company to supply furniture with a new concealed jointing system to the Prison Service.

Weeke supplied Leisure Engineering Projects Ltd (LEP) with a BHC550 CNC machining centre, complete with specially developed aggregate to cut threads for the Invis fixing system. Now LEP aims to use the technology for other applications.

Weeke needed to produce a new tool as its existing aggregate could only machine and cut threads in apertures within the vertical plane.

The aggregate is not a standard method of tapping a thread but uses a knife which extends once the hole is drilled and then cuts a thread as the drilling bit is extracted. The tool offers LEP flexibility as it can be set to different diameters, thread settings and pitch angles.

Weeke BHC CNC maching centres are available from £40,000.
