The building industry now has an alternative to a pre-assembled half hour door set system following successful testing of linings from W Howard‘s Primer Mould range in a half hour fire resisting installation to FD30 specification.

MDF mouldings manufacturer W Howard said its 75mm linings, tested at Warrington Fire Research, readily met the requirements of BS476 part 22, with eventual failure of integrity occurring at 37 minutes.

The set consisted of a Primer Mould manufactured fire lining, an approved half hour fire door, steel butt hinges, 100x4mm intumescent strip and an appropriate door closer.

The set was tested complete with latch and handles but under “worst case scenario” conditions.

W Howard managing director Ced Howard said: “There is rightly a high degree of focus being placed by the regulatory bodies upon the compatibility of components currently being used in fire door sets and installations.”

He said the company felt it had a duty to provide test evidence on the performance of its products in an installed situation and added: ” This is an important breakthrough and really gives the builder a flexible option to a pre-assembled set.”
