Pontrilas Timber has taken delivery of four new Volvo trucks as it refreshes its fleet and looks to increase revenue from back loads.

The Herefordshire sawmiller has bought FH-500 EGR, 6×2 tag-axle trucks, with a further five on order. This will also increase the firm’s fleet of artics from 14 to 16.

Managing director Edward Hickman said each £90,000 truck was specified to be multi purpose and allow Pontrilas to switch them from the forest to the road, satisfying its business portfolio.

“All our vehicles are designed to be multi purpose with the ability to collect logs from the forest with removable bolster pins and then deliver sawn timber to our customers,” he said.

“We act as a general hauliers to increase loaded miles and increase vehicles revenues.

“We currently achieve 80% loaded miles with a target of 90%. The two extra vehicles should help us achieve this.”

Mr Hickman added Pontrilas has purchased the trucks on a five-year maintenance contract with Volvo.
