A Höcker Polytechnik briquetter and Untha shredder from JJ?Smith & Co (Woodworking Machinery) formed part of a waste wood solution for Stoke-on-Trent staircase manufacturer P&L Joinery.

The Untha LR630 shredder was purchased by P&L because disposal of the offcuts from its four large-capacity Masterwood CNC routers was difficult and expensive.

The Höcker C3-14 briquetter handles the large volumes of waste shavings and sawdust. Briquettes are used to heat the factory in winter and any surplus briquettes are sold locally.

“Since the installation both have run more or less constantly every day without any problems,” said production manager Chris Tomkinson. “The Hocker C3 produces a consistent quality briquette without the need for any adjustment at all, even when we may get a slightly different mix of waste going in.”
