P&J Joinery is the first company in the UK to install a Weinig Cube four-sided straightening planer.

Weinig says several Cube installations have now been completed in the UK since the product was launched at last year’s Ligna exhibition in Hanover, with PJ Joinery being the first. A recent in-house exhibition at Weinig UK’s Abingdon base also resulted in several further Cube orders.

Chinnor-based P&J Joinery, which serves builders and private clients, already operated a Weinig Profimat 22N for 22 years but wanted to update its technology to attract more business.

“We particularly needed the Cube’s 260x160mm specification and were highly impressed by its versatility and saving in set-up time,” said Philip Nixey, P&J owner.

Since installation, Mr Nixey said the Cube’s time savings had minimised downtime and made the company more versatile and productive, providing increased capacity to take on more work and be more competitive.

P&J gives a complete joinery service for windows, doors, staircases, kitchen and bedroom furniture.

New Weinig UK managing director Malcolm Cuthbertson said interest in the Cube had been growing steadily since the last Ligna, with customers “bowled over” by the technology at the recent in-house show.

“There was a buzz about the exhibition [in-house show] and I am sure there will be a big sales potential for this machine from the people who came to see it in action and from many more joinery and furniture companies in general,” said Mr Cuthbertson.
