Peter Ross, renowned engineer and specialist in timber, has been appointed TRADA president.

Announcing the appointment, chief executive Andrew Abbott said: “We were looking for a strong advocate of timber in construction, a firm believer in and supporter of TRADA and a figurehead for the Association who was well respected across the timber and construction industries. In Peter we have found a worthy ambassador who will provide insight and wisdom as we further our objectives and we are delighted that he has accepted the role.”

Mr Ross, now consultant to Ove Arup & Partners, whom he joined in 1958, has designed many structures in timber and is well known for his work on the replacement roof of the south transept of York Minster. Mr Ross said: “I feel very honoured to have been offered the post and I hope that my background as a general designer in timber will assist in promoting its wider use in building generally.”
