Peter Benson (Plywood) Ltd (PBP) has further upgraded cutting operations following continued customer interest in its machining services.

The company, based in Darwen, Lancashire, bought at auction a one-year-old £85,000 Holzher 4.2m beamsaw for £25,000 to bolster an existing beam saw and matrix bed CNC machine.

“The price was too good to be true so we went for it,” said director John Guy. “We were worried about spending all that money and then it going quiet, but the cutting side is picking up for us. I can’t say whether it is because more people are outsourcing or whether it’s pure growth, but it’s becoming more and more important.”

PBP, which is an importer and also supplies sheet materials from all UK manufacturers, has been operating for 25 years and added cutting services 10 years ago.

As well as cutting to size, it machines table tops with bullnosed edging, van lining kits, formers from MDF and plywood, acoustic panelling and also performs CNC drilling operations.

“We started off with a panel saw and got busier and busier, and slowly built it up. Three years ago we got into CNC and that’s doing well,” Mr Guy said.
