Paslode Duo-Fast nailers have played a vital role in the restoration of the Treasury building in Whitehall.

The Paslode Impulse IM350 nailers were used in the refurbishment of the 100-year-old timber floors in the building.

Each one of the boards had to be taken up for cleaning and to allow joist inspection and packing and installation of floor boxes.

The cordless strip nailers were then used to fix the boards back in place.

According to Dennis Hatton, safety manager of Bovis Lend Lease, one of the partners in the PFI project, the tools were chosen partly for their speed and efficiency – they can drive up to 1,000 nails per hour – and partly for safety.

“The joinery contractors, Oakmead and Ruddy Joinery, are using the nailers for six or seven hours a day, every day,” he said. “There is no safer or quicker way of carrying out this kind of job.”

He added that Paslode had trained both the joiners and Bovis’ team of construction managers in using the tools, which will also be employed in fixing door casings and other jobs in the Treasury building.
