With the PUWER deadline for stopping of machinery due in December, Stenner and Crompton Controls have joined forces to help woodworking companies stay inside the law.

The partnership, which brings together Crompton Controls’ experience as a manufacturer of electric motor control equipment and Stenner’s knowledge of resaws and braking these machines, will provide retrofit DC braking services for large woodworking machines.

A key feature of the service, which has a dedicated “hotline” telephone number, on 0845 2238533, is that systems are available to suit large motors from 11kW upwards.

Stenner managing director Doug Shopland said that competitively-priced packages are based around robust, maintenance-free DC injection braking systems and that retrofitting will cause minimum disruption to customers’ production.”

Brent Mason of Crompton Controls said companies unsure about what they need to do to meet the PUWER requirements can ask for a survey of their production equipment to identify which machines require braking. The cost is then offset against subsequent orders for retrofitting services.

He warned that demand for DC injection braking will increase as the December 8 deadline approaches and added: “If companies delay action until the last minute, there is a danger that the work will not be completed in time.”
