US-based wood preservatives producer Osmose Inc has been issued a patent for its micronised copper technology for wood preservation.

Osmose originally filed the patent application in 2003 and it was finally granted on March 9 by the US Patent and Trademark Office.

The patent covers a method for treating wood with different aqueous compositions of particles of copper compounds such as copper carbonate, basic copper carbonate or copper hydroxide. Related micronised patent applications have been examined and granted internationally.

Wood products treated with Osmose’s MicroPro technology are sold in more than 5,000 lumber yards and home centres in the US and are also on sales in the UK.

Osmose said it would continue to build on its micronised technology and has filed additional patent applications in the US and other countries broadly covering the concept of treating wood with micronised particles.
