Fire Retardant UK Ltd’s newly launched Class 0 fire retardant HR Prof, has been specified on a £200m development in Hull.

HR Prof, which Fire Retardant UK has been importing from Finland for six months, has been used to protect the glulam beams, structural timbers and other decorative wood used in the construction of the St Stephen’s development in Hull, a new mixed-use leisure and retail complex on a 40-acre site in the heart of the city.

The product is a water-based, organic treatment that can be used in external and internal applications, and has been developed over the last decade with Fire Retardant UK the sole importer to the UK.

Chris Dilks, of Fire Retardant UK, said the organic structure and uses of HR Prof, which is 70% water and can be overcoated, made it “pretty unusual”.

Other developments to specify HR Prof include an early start school.
