Irish timber frame home manufacturer IJM Timber Engineering Ltd has introduced Dimter OptiCut cross-cut saws at its factories in Monaghan, Armagh and Kilkenny.

IJM bought the three machines, which have replaced manual cross-cuts, to process the hundreds of timber lengths required for its buildings.

The OptiCut S50, supplied by Weinig UK, has a label printer which identifies every piece of timber. Previously, the company found it difficult to identify pieces which had small variations in length.

IJM says the saw reduces timber waste by optimising. Random lengths are automatically measured and processed into useable lengths from the cutting list, minimising the size of off-cuts which are wasted and increasing timber yield.

The Dimter is capable of processing packs, individual pieces or cutting out defects and can hande pieces up to 60kg at 60m/min.
