Michael Atley, a highly esteemed and respected member of the hardwood timber trade, died on January 28. He was 60.

Mr Atley was sole proprietor of Oscar Windebank & Son Ltd from l976, first in Bath and then to the present day site in Box. Prior to this he was on the board of the family softwood company May and Hassell. Then he purchased his own small hardwood business, and always preferred the close personal relationship he built up with many of his customers and suppliers. He always worked long, hard hours, and looked forward to every day at work. He put the well-being of his long-standing members of staff foremost. He is greatly missed by his many friends inside the industry and beyond.

Mr Atley leaves behind his wife Barb, two sons and a daughter.
