John Lenanton died on May 7 after a long illness. He was 72.

Mr Lenanton was the fourth generation to work in his family firm, John Lenanton & Son, which was established in 1837.The family has been involved in shipbuilding and the timber trade since the 1760s.

He was an enthusiastic member of the trade, serving on several TTF committees and as chairman of TRADA. He was also a prominent member of the London Timber Trade Golfing Society.

Having spent virtually all his working life in timber he remained interested in the trade up to his last days. He would wish those who worked for him and his many other friends in the trade to know they were never far from his thoughts.

He is survived by his wife Rosemary, sons Philip and Gerald, and daughter Fiona.
