FW Masons has added another Weinig moulder to its machining line-up to support the further expansion of its “specials” mouldings range in 2010.

The Nottingham-based manufacturer of timber products, which supplies DIY stores, merchants and manufacturers, has more than 20 moulders and planers, with a capacity of 40,000m3.

The new Weinig Powermat 500 moulder was commissioned on December 1 and follows the earlier introduction of a Powermat 1000.

“The impressive performance of that machine encouraged us to invest further with the Powermat 500,” said production manager Steve Newbold. “Replacing our old machines with energy-efficient, fast set-up machines is the way we will continue to go.”

The six-cutter head machine runs at 8,000rpm and features HSK Powerlock tooling.

Masons said the Powermat 500 would allow the company to increase production of its specials mouldings range and free up other machinery to concentrate on stock products. The expansion will include new products aimed at both the DIY and manufacturing sectors.

It said it was looking to continue investment, as the new automated technology improved customer service and production flexibility, as well as reduced lead times and set-up times.

Masons, which celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2009, supplies softwood and MDF architectural mouldings, claddings and PSE sizes.
