A solid wood furniture manufacturer expects to be able to enter new markets folowing its latest investment in technology.

Charles Yorke, a bespoke division of Symphony plc, recently improved the manufacturing capacity of its Nottinghamshire factory with the addition of a Butfering 213RL wide belt sander, a Brandt KD99AFQ and a Martin T44 thicknesser – all specified by Homag UK.

The company’s manufacturing director Mark Denman says the installations offer further flexibility and capacity to the factory and will position Charles Yorke well for extending into target areas such as the luxury new-build market.

The 1350mm width Butfering sander, chosen for its calibrating and finishing abilities, has a twin head with a larger diameter steel roller on the first head followed by a combination unit for veneer sanding.

Brandt’s KD99AFQ single-sided edgebander was specified for its solid lipping ability and flexibility in applying coiled materials. Its trimming capability obviates the need for further sanding, while the Ligmatech ZHR15 panel return device is designed for increased productivity and ease of operation.

The Martin T44 thicknesser can absorb six times the level of vibration compared with conventional cast iron machines, according to Homag. Its Tersa cutter block system permits full knife changeover in under five minutes and has an electric rise and fall control of the table from 2.8mm through to 250mm.

Earlier machines supplied by Homag UK include a Homag Sawtech C03 Plus beam saw, a smaller Sawtech CF10/32 sliding table saw, a Brandt KD56 edgebander, a Weeke BP145 Optimat CNC machining centre and a Weeke BP85 CNC centre.
