The installation of a £750,000 Bre.Ma cabinet assembly line at Premiere Kitchens has doubled the company’s throughput and helped it meet the government’s growing emphasis on higher standards in the social housing sector.

The line, supplied by Ney Ltd, was installed at Premiere’s Gloucester factory and fully automates a process which had been largely manual until 12 months ago.

Panels, which are already cut, edged, grooved and dowelled, are fed into the Bre.Ma line and transported vertically before drilling is carried out on the faces and edges. They are then assembled and cramped on press technology before being shrink wrapped in an Erregi tunnel for delivery to site.

The line features two CNC Vektor GLR-XL2500/1100 drilling systems which can process work to a maximum size of 2500x1100x80mm. The first 10-axis Vektor completes most drilling, with laser referencing for leading and trailing edges, while the second 9-axis unit is equipped with insertion units for shelf pins, hinge plates and hanging brackets for wall mounted cabinets.

Other elements include a horizontal glue injection plant for applying adhesive to dowel holes or grooves, plus a Termopak hydraulic press and an Erregi Compact 250/4R shrink wrap line.
