Cliff Thrumble, managing director of Boyland Joinery Ltd, is the new chairman of the British Woodworking Federation‘s Timber Window Accreditation (TWA) Scheme.

He takes over from Stephen Wright, managing director of George Barnsdale & Sons, who was chairman for the past four years, during which time all members implemented the use of 100% certified timber on Scheme windows and became Kitemark licensees.

“When the Scheme was formed 10 years ago, it was trying to restore confidence to the timber window market,” said Mr Thrumble. “Now wood windows are seen as something to aspire to, not least because they help increase the value of period properties.

“However, these are challenging times and our Scheme members are well aware that the plastic window industry is well organised and has marketing savvy. If ever there was a time to join the TWA Scheme, that time is now – when being part of a strong and effective industry group will benefit both individual businesses and market sector growth.”
