Timber delivery costs could be slashed by between 33-50% according to distributors who have changed their cranes for more versatile truck-mounted forklift vehicles.

Mark Hignett, managing director of truck mounted forklift manufacturer Moffett Ltd, said research was undertaken by the company’s customers, all established hauliers, manufacturers and distributors, who independently compared truck mounted forklifts to their cranes and closely monitored performance, fuel consumption and efficiency. He added: “When they analysed the savings they had made in delivery costs and lower fuel bills, with the added bonus that a forklift is more versatile, they were staggered. It would seem that more and more businesses can make real savings and offer a better service for customers.”

Moffett is so convinced that it can save timber merchants and distributors money that it has launched a new on-the-road fleet of demonstration machines to prove the point at potential customers’ own premises.
