The addition of two German-made Löwer finishing machines has eliminated bottlenecks at door and window manufacturer MH Joinery Products.

The RotoMaster and MiniMaster machines replaced laborious manual pre-finishing and denibbing at the Bridgewater-based company. Staff previously involved in hand-finishing have now been moved to more productive areas of the factory.

The four-head RotoMaster 4B model is being used for finishing large and pre-assembled workpieces, while the MiniMaster is for single, linear components.

Both units are fitted with SlipCon brush-backed abrasive strips which are mounted into individual combs that can be inserted into the spindle-mounted hub in any order or configuration.

The RotoMaster range of throughfeed brush sanders has a working width of 1350mm and accepts workpieces up to 120mm high. Individual 2.2kW motors drive each of the 50mm diameter spindles at speeds from 100-700rpm.

MH Joinery’s model has a brush diameter of either 300mm or 400mm and feed speed is variable from 3-15m/min.

The LZM 300-2 two-head MiniMaster will accept widths up to 300m and a height of 100mm, using a 300mm diameter brush driven at 750rpm on a 32mm diameter spindle.

It features a set height for the feed belt, moving at either six, 11 or 16m/min and is equipped with the GapSystem which forces the feed belt down and away when directly under the brush.

MH Joinery also credits the machines with improving finish quality and eliminating various health and safety issues.
