Timber products manufacturer FW Mason & Sons Ltd of Nottingham has embarked on the second stage of a £500,000 modernisation programme started last year.

During 2003 new automated production and handling equipment was installed and this has been followed by a substantial investment in new machinery.

Among items purchased are a Barbaran Profile-Wrapping machine, capable of wrapping foils, vinyls and wood veneers on linear mouldings to customers’ own designs or requirements.

A new Weinig 1000 Powermat moulding machine – a high-speed moulder capable of short runs with fast set up times – has also been bought.

Company chairman and managing director David Mason said: “This investment shows our commitment to the trade. Our special profiles and independent retail market businesses have shown good growth over the past 12 months, and this additional investment will further the prompt attention given to specifically manufactured products and improve efficiency throughout the mills at Nottingham.”
