The introduction of more than 30 new products has helped industrial power tools manufacturer Makita UK record a 10% sales increase in the first six months of 2002.

The rise, compared to the same period last year, also reflects the buoyant construction industry, with housebuilding and industrial development showing no sign of slowing. The company says its brands are now advancing into other industries.

This year Makita is celebrating 30 years in the British market place. Its Telford factory, established 10 years ago, produces 1.4 million tools per year, 80% of which are exported globally.

The manufacture of jig-saws and combination drill-drivers has recently been extended at the factory.
