Hugh Mackay, group technical director and executive chairman of Stewart Milne‘s timber systems division, has been appointed as chairman of the UK Timber Frame Association.

Mr Mackay said the UKTFA would focus on achieving some short- to medium-term objects in order to meet its longer-term aims.

“For example, forging lines of communication between established timber frame companies and newer companies entering the market is vital in securing the transfer of accurate, relevant industry knowledge,” he said. “Developing recognised training initiatives for the industry is also of great importance in safeguarding standards and workmanship in the design, manufacturer and erection of timber frame systems.”

The association would continue to develop and promote timber frame with regard to Building Regulations and would work with private housebuilders to demonstrate how timber frame could meet their needs.
