The Italian woodworking machinery industry has been buoyed by a 12.6% growth in orders during the second quarter, compared to a year earlier.

Acimall, the Italian woodworking machinery and tools manufacturers’ association, said the news was cause for optimism but the “hard times” were not over yet.

Foreign orders were up 27% but the domestic market contracted by 17.1%.

The period of assured production lengthened to about 2.7 months and prices rose on average by 1.5%.

According to Acimall’s quality survey, 47% of companies interviewed reported a stationary production trend, while 41% indicated growth and 12% a decreasing output.
