Cutting timber is unlikely ever to be a quiet business, but blade-specialist Leuco is doing its best to keep the racket to a bare minimum.

Among its noise-reduction breakthroughs at Ligna was a redesign of its Diamax cutter range. This features modified gullets and tooth backs which help optimise airflow and minimise turbulence. The result is a cut in noise while the machine is running of 5dB(A) and a 2dB(A) reduction during idling. Consequently Diamax has been rebranded the LowNoise Jointing Cutter.

The new DP SmartJointer cutter is not only billed as producing less noise than its predecessors (2dB(A) when idling and 3.5dB(A) in operation), it is also lighter weight. And a high tensile aluminium body, means it is easier to handle and needs less energy to drive. The tool body can also be reused. Damaged cutting edges can be replaced individually and integrated gullets, protecting the body from wear by chips, further add to its life.
