Leeds College of Building has updated its teaching equipment by installing a Weinig Powermat 400 moulder.

The moulder has replaced an 18-year-old Weinig 17A four-sided moulder, which is part of the tooling used for the wood machining and furniture courses.

Leeds College said that the installation of the moulder alongside Weinig’s PowerCom operating software, a Rondomat 960 PowerLock profile grinder and OptiControl PowerCom measuring stand had made it “one of the best resourced workshops in the UK”.

“The technology used and the build quality of the machinery is everything that you would expect,” said Peter Hunt, wood machining and furniture course manager.

“[It] will help us provide our students with the state-of-the-art training their industry demands.”

Weinig plans to use the college’s machine as a demonstration model for local companies, as well as a useful tool in its own training of operators.
