The Prison Service has bought a KoolKut wall saw to help process fibreglass laminated plywood used in its specialised vehicles.

Its fleet engineering services division in Burton-on-Trent invested in a KoolKut KK21S from Sagetech Industries Ltd to replace an ageing table saw. It handles sheets of up to 3100x2100mm.

Workshop manager Gordon Cartwright said accuracy was very important in vehicle fitting out work otherwise time was wasted adjusting dimensions. Since the KoolKut’s introduction, he said mitres on lippings no longer needed to be adjusted.

Mr Cartwright said the saw only required one operator, compared to two with the old machine, while it also saved space and cut vehicle refit time by 10%. The rip cut gauge accessory has also made cutting of 50mm strips faster and more accurate.

The KoolKut range is available from £2,995.
