John Kissock, director of ConFor and joint managing director of James Jones & Sons, has been awarded an honorary doctorate in engineering by Napier University‘s Faculty of Engineering & Computing.
After completing a forestry degree at the University of Aberdeen, Mr Kissock joined James Jones and became area manager for the south of Scotland and north of England in 1976. In 1985 he was promoted to main board director, overseeing operations and increasing sawmilling capacity. In 1997 he was appointed joint managing director and supervised the company’s move into engineered wood products.
Mr Kissock is a director of Unity Pallet and United Box, a director of ConFor, and a member of Grampian Forest Forum and the Scottish Forestry Forum. He is also chairman of the UK Timber Grading Committee, a member of Forestry Commission Scotland‘s regional advisory committee, and a trustee of the Scottish Forestry Trust.
In the past, Mr Kissock has served as a director of Scottish Enterprise Forth Valley, a director of TRADA, and chairman of the board of management for Napier University’s Centre for Timber Engineering. His contribution to the UK’s forest industries was recognised with an OBE in 2005.
