Kebony’s big bold stand underlined its ambitions in the UK.

The Norwegian modified timber specialist opened a 25,000m³-capacity plant last year and is now looking to expand sales overseas. It has an office in the US, distribution in six European countries, and the UK is now firmly in its sights, with business development manager Adrian Pye focused on cultivating end users and a distribution network.

“Kebony has been used in Norway for six-and-a-half years,” he said. “We are now keen to prove its performance in the UK. We’ve already supplied construction projects and are talking with architects and specifiers. The marina market offers strong potential too and we’re working with a leading pontoon maker. We’ve also identified a number of specialist distributors.”

Kebony is made from Scotch and southern yellow pine and maple pressure treated with a sugar cane-derived alcohol and heat cured, increasing its hardness and durability. It is marketed principally as a tropical hardwood substitution.
