A West Sussex hardwood furniture maker has turned to Hoffman technology to simplify jointing procedures.

Westwood Furniture, of Haywards Heath, bought the Hoffman MU2 bench-top keyway router to cut slots in component faces, which are then joined together with Hoffman serrated dovetail keys.

The company is using the system for frame work, constructing face frames and in-frame designs, as well as mitre joints on plinths and cornices.

Westwood is currently working on a project where the dovetail key is being used as a visual feature. Keyway slots are being made slightly deeper so a walnut cap can be placed over the key to provide a flush finish with the surface of the furniture.
