Nairn-based John Gordon & Son has invested £750,000 in the past year so it can respond to growing customer demand.

Sales director Scott Gordon explained: “We are increasingly being asked for component type specifications for pallet and case making and there is an ongoing requirement for cut lengths of fencing.”

A new treatment centre has been installed which has tripled the company’s on-site capacity and now enables it to treat both green and brown timber. The undercover storage area has also been greatly increased.

A major part of the investment was the installation of a Danish manufactured Brodbæk automatic layer cross-cutting system complete with automatic CNC setting which allows each size change to be carried out in seconds.

This is the first machine of its kind to be installed in the UK and its versatility is highlighted by its ability to cross cut lengths from 5.4m down to 0.65m, and sections from 16x 75 up to 75×225.

Mr Gordon said: “There is more than adequate capacity within the system to handle both current and anticipated future requirements.”
