John Boddy Timber Ltd is building a third grading line to help its smaller customers to inspect and select wood in accurately defined grades.

The development follows the recent installation of a second grading line, designed and built by the company, at its Riverside Sawmills in Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire.

The investment, which will also soon include a new re-saw line, goes hand-in-hand with a commitment to continue a policy of supplying to any order quantity – aimed at providing a flexible service for the many small to medium size furniture and joinery manufacturers among its customer base.

The company says there is an emerging trend for hardwoods to be supplied in minimum quantities of unbroken packs or even full trailer loads, which often proves to be a headache for smaller furniture manufacturers.

Managing director Frank Boddy said: “Our business has, over the last 28 years, been established on the supply of smaller orders and our philosophy of giving the same level of attention to the quality and service for customers requiring one board or a lorry load will not change.”

He said architects and specifiers also find the flexibility of the grading lines helpful.
