JD’s Frank Dempsey decided to upgrade from a traditional spindle moulder one Saturday morning when he had to come to work to run a length of hand rail – a couple of hours work for a skilled worker involving several setups.

He looked over at the company’s SCM CNC Windor 20 machine and reasoned there had to be a better method of production.

The following Monday he contacted SCM and the result was an order for a Superset class six-head moulder.

The Superset was supplied with a 260mm width capacity to produce the Perivale-based company’s stair strings.

“It made sense to buy the Superset class,” said Mr Dempsey. “I could have waited until the window line had entirely paid for itself, but what is the point? It is not so much a question of how much the machine would cost in terms of the purchase price but how much money we would lose messing around with the old, traditional methods.”
