Falkirk-based home-grown sawmiller James Callander & Sons Ltd has invested in its own timber treatment facility utilising Tanalith E.
The firm has spent in excess of £50,000 on the treatment plant and director Grant Sellars said the facility represents a significant new venture for the company.
“Previously we used one dedicated treatment firm, but circumstances changed and we had to take timber all over the country for treatment. The answer was to have our own plant.”
He added that the facility leaves the company well-placed to cope with upcoming restrictions on CCA use.
Callander says it can process “significant volumes speedily” in its 15m long and 2m diameter treatment vessel. It is also now offering treatment for third parties.
The bulk of Callander’s sawn output is carcassing which is sold to timber and builders merchants across the UK.
